With an area of over 2,000 km2 and more than 10 million people, accounting for more than 22% of the country’s GDP, Ho Chi Minh City is the largest economic center in Vietnam. Binh Dong Wharf is one of dozens of important wharves of Saigon’s canals, which was the major waterway in the old time, connecting Saigon with six southern provinces. Some old houses of the Chinese are still maintained along the canal. The head office of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee is located on Le Thanh Ton Street. The building was built from 1898 to 1909 by architect Gardes, simulating the bell towers in the north of France. This is considered a “must-see” place in Saigon. Dong Khoi, one of the oldest and most beautiful roads of Saigon with a series of luxury works as the Opera House, Caravelle Hotel, Continental Hotel and hundreds of shops selling leading fashion brands in the world. One of the greatest works of new Saigon is Thu Thiem Tunnel which is 1,490 m long, connecting District 1 and District 2. This is also a favorite place for the young to see the city at night.
