Historic dam renovated in Hue City

Dap Da, an almost-one-hundred-year-old dam in central Thua Thien-Hueprovince, will be renovated at a total cost of 19 billion VND (8.7million USD), said Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee NguyenVan Cao.

Under the project, the provincialauthority will build an 11.25-metre underground drainage, enlarge theroad on top of the dam to 10.5 metres and dredge the upper section ofthe dam.

Started in June, the project is scheduled to be finished in about four months.

In addition, a 500-metre parking lot will be opened nearby the dam to develop tourism in the neighbourhood.

Dap Da was built in 1917 under the French time, blocking the Nhu YRiver, an affluent of the Huong River, in an attempt to preventsaltwater intrusion for the benefit of agricultural production in HuongThuy and Phu Vang districts.

It now connects Le Loi and Nguyen Sinh Cung streets in Hue city, leading people to the Thuan An beach.
