US luxury cruise ship berths in Vung Tau

Quantum of the Seas, a new US five-star cruise ship, docked in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province Wednesday for its nearly 6,000 passengers and crew to go on a day tour.

The 18-story vessel brought tourists from 59 countries, including the US, Australia, Japan, and Singapore, who went on a tour with Saigontourist around Vung Tau and neighboring Ho Chi Minh City before leaving at 6 p.m. for Hong Kong.

The ship is 347 meters long, nearly 170,000 metric tons and designed with more than 2,000 cabins for 4,905 passengers and 1,500 crew members.

A German builder delivered it to Royal Caribbean International last October and is currently the leading luxury cruise ship in the world.

It has an outdoor pool with a large video screen, a rock climbing wall, an observation tower, a casino, a skydiving simulator set in a vertical wind tunnel, a surf simulator, and a Broadway-style theater.

Saigontourist, Vietnam’s biggest tourism company, has brought onshore more than 122,500 cruise tourists this year.
