New climbing routes open in Quang Binh

After nearly a month of construction, partly-artificial climbing routes at Hang Toi (Dark Cave) were completed on schedule for the “Top Rope” climbing competition being held as part of the Cave Festival 2015 in central Quang Binh province from August 5 to 20.

The climb is 30-meters high, including two climbing lines with a number of hand holds. The route was designed and made by EVERREST Viet Company and Mr. Pham Van Nhien, who won a Silver Medal at the SeaGames. He is also one of only three Vietnamese climbers to have conquered Mt. Everest.

After the festival, the Phong Nha – Ke Bang Tourism Center will be open the climbing routes regularly and Vietnam Records has been asked to recognize it as “The highest partly-artificial climbing route in Vietnam”.

Tours to the Chay River and Dark Cave also provide unique activities such as zip-line trips and mud bathing in caves, which are hugely popular among tourists. The tourism center expects the climbing route will attract more international visitors to the region.
