The International Typographic Exhibition of the New York TypeDirectors Club (TDC) opened at the Goethe Institut Hanoi on November 19,presenting 294 selections of excellent artworks from all over theworld.
The exhibition is organized annually, introducing typography artworksfrom international artists. This is the sixth TDC exhibition held inVietnam, known as TDC61, and follows on from the success of last year’sTDC60.
According to Mr. Richard Moore, a branding expert who has advisedmany major brands in Vietnam, 61 years ago the first TDC exhibition ofpublished design works with an emphasis on typographic excellence wasorganized. “As a longtime member of the Type Directors Club I am honoredto once again open this year’s exhibition in Hanoi,” he said.
The winning communication designs, with an emphasis on finetypography, have already been exhibited in many countries, includingSpain, Brazil, the UK, and the US, and are now in Vietnam. “I hope thatseeing how typography is used internationally in events like this willencourage and inspire young people in Vietnam, especially those who arepassionate for creativity,” Mr. Moore said.
The organizers deliver “a walk of typo, layout and color” to thepublic, with 294 selections of winning work from TDC’s annualinternational typeface design competition and its communications designcompetition. The typography is showcased in a wide range of categories,including web graphics, books, corporate branding, logos, stationery,video, posters, products, and magazines from a range of countries,including the US, Germany, Australia, Canada, China, the UK, France,India, Japan, South Korea, and the Netherlands.
“It’s a pleasure to join TDC this year,” said Mr. Christopher Lorvo,Creative Director of Richard Moore Associates in Hanoi. The exhibitionis a great opportunity for creative people and lovers of beautifultypefaces to get in touch with the finest typographic works from the US,Europe (especially Germany), and Asia. “For those of us who are artdirectors and graphic designers, these projects demonstrate that thereare no trends we should follow – but there are cultures we can explore,”he added.
The Type Directors Club, headquartered in New York, is aninternational organization for designers with a love of typography. InVietnam the exhibition is being organized by Richard Moore Associatesand co-organized by the Goethe Institut and FPT Arena in Hanoi and HoaSen University in Ho Chi Minh City.
TDC61 in Hanoi is open for public entry from 9am to 7pm until November 22.
In Ho Chi Minh City the exhibition will be held for four days afteropening at 9am on December 10 at Hoa Sen University, 8 Nguyen Van Trang.
