Vietnam"s longest lantern street opens in Da Nang

More than 3,000 lanterns will light up Asia Park in the city during the Mid-Autumn Festival

Authorities in the central city of Da Nang have kicked off the month-long display of over 3,000 lanterns at Asia Park to mark Vietnam’s National Day (September 2).

The event is also meant to celebrate Tet Trung Thu, or Mid-Autumn Festival, which is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of lunar calendar and will fall on September 27 this year. The festival day will be the event’s last day and will be marked by the performance of local lion and dragon dances.

More than 100 artisans from Hoi An worked on the exhibition, which covers more than 1.1 kilometers and is named “Vietnam’s longest lantern street.”

The exhibition’s central area is dedicated to hundreds of lanterns with Vietnamese designs such as stars and moons.

Lanterns with designs typical of Japanese, Indonesian and Singaporean cultures are displayed at another three areas.

With a diversity of designs, lanterns here can be found in human figures wearing Vietnamese ao dai and playing traditional musical instruments.

Sun Wheel, a 115-meter high ferris wheel, plays a key part in several lantern installations.
